Will San Diego ban foie gras?
The calls for a foie gras ban mirrors similar action in other US cities and states. In 2004 California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a bill that would end the forcefeeding of poultry to produce the highly-valued livers by 2012. It will also ban the sale of foie gras produced by force-feeding. In New York last month a coalition of animal welfare groups filed a lawsuit calling for the sale and production of foie gras to be outlawed. Chicago recently banned the sale of foie gras, with any restaurants caught serving the delicacy risking fines of up to 500 dollars.

Why does the government stack the deck against the family farm?
The very policies touted by Congress as a way to save small family farms are instead helping to accelerate their demise. That’s because owners of large farms receive the largest share of government subsidies. They often use the money to acquire more land, pushing aside small and medium-size farms as well as young farmers starting out.

Senator Smith calls Bush war policy possibly ’criminal’
I, for one, am at the end of my rope when it comes to supporting a policy that has our soldiers patrolling the same streets in the same way being blown up by the same bombs day after day," said Smith. "That is absurd. It may even be criminal. I cannot support that anymore.
